Airport tours are organized at several airports in Europe, but ours is unique, because we take our passengers with special Malév Ikarus buses near the aircraft, and there are several occasions to get out of the bus: at the approach lights, at the edge of the apron, near the runways and at the fire station. We are always there where things happen, where the biggest and most interesting aircraft move around, therefore no two airport tours are the same. Our tour guides continuously comment the events, and try to uncover all the secrets from the mystical world of aviation.
TOUR TYPES
PUBLIC
A three-hour tour at the apron of Ferenc Liszt International Airport. Our Malév Ikarus buses drive about 40 km around parking stands, taxiways and the runways to allow us to watch as closely as possible aircraft taking off and landing, and being serviced on the ground. The tour also visits the airport fire service center, where the largest and most expensive firefighting vehicles are seen, and we can learn about the tasks of airport firefighters. The program of the tour is never standard, getting out of the bus near the runways and at the edge of the apron is always adjusted to the departure and arrival of the biggest and most spectacular aircraft. One of the most memorable elements of the tour is when arriving flights whizz 40 m over our heads as we stand in the middle of the approach light sequence. Our tour guides do not only narrate the events, but also try to present the operation of the air traffic industry of today.
FAMILY-FRIENDLY TOUR
A two-hour experience on the airport apron, recommended mostly for families with little children (3-6 years of age). Our tour guides create the program according to the needs of this age group, with 1-2 walks at the most spectacular points of the airport: at the edge of the apron and next to the active runway. We will show arriving and departing flights and ground handling, but we will also talk to the children about how somebody can become a pilot, a flight attendant or an air traffic controller, what happens on board an aircraft before the first passengers arrive, and in general, how to prepare for a trip by air. Our colleagues show the secrets of this little town in a playful manner, and try to raise interest in the better and lesser known professions in air traffic. The tour is also conducted by one of our Malév Ikarus buses.
NIGHT TOUR
When the Sun is about to set, that is when we set out to the apron. A special trip behind the scenes of Ferenc Liszt International Airport, where, apart from arriving and departing flights, airport lights play the main part. During the three-hour trip, we get out of the Malév Ikarus buses several times to be at arm’s length from taxiing aircraft. Our tour guides talk not only about the events around us, they also explain night operations at the airport, the role of the 5500 different luminaires and light sources, we find out why taxiways are lit with cornflower blue lights, what each light signal means, how pilots navigate in low visibility conditions on the ground and in the air, and how the control tower operates in such times.
